October 6, 2009

This is my seccond time at this placement, so far its not working out! the teacher has not been here both times. Last week i was sent home, this week i expliained to the princpale that i have to clock some hours and was allowed to stay. The sub was very nice answered allmy questions and took me on a tour of the school. He then explained the schedule to me, there are 9 periods and on tuesday its "Lew-Port Reads" the whole school (students) are required to read during the homeroom time (7:49-8:30) the book they are reading is Monster by Walter Dean Myers. Due to this reading time the rest of the classes are cut. The teacher i am with has several different class, all her classes except for keyboarding have a "free" day and are allowed to use the computers or other they can do other class work. The keyboarding class had to work on a unit, when they were finished they were able to play around on the computers. I hope this placement works out i like this school a lot.

Last week we went on a hike in the gorge. It was so much fun the scenery was gorgeous. The leaves were changing and the colors were amazing! As we left school we were crossing 104 and just went illegally and as were crossing some crazy man was beeping at us and gave us the finger! We continued to the beginning of the gorge. We started down the creepy old stairs and that was fun! We were walking sideways on the crooked staircase. When we got to the bottom we had mini lesson. And then continued on out venture, the leaves against the colors of the trees were so beautiful. The weather was so nice for us. When we got to the actual Devil’s hole we had another mini lesson and had to grab a rock. The rock represented the stress in our lives, and then we threw it in the water. It was so helpful. After we continued a few more feet we were able to spread out and not talk and just chill. It was so relaxing. Then we hiked up the stairs and headed to the professor’s house, where we had our last mini lesson and some yummy breakfast.

I loved this class it was different; we were able to get some fresh air and get out of the classroom and get out of the normal classroom. I hope that I can get my students out of the classroom and learn out in the real world.

  1. Seems like this placement might be challenging for you to get the practice you need.
Have you read books by Walter Dean Myers? There are several great resources online for you to extend their project.
